v5.2.0: Made the Dashboard respond to changes in window size (785)
Header Options
v2.3.2: Changed the fixed-width header option to scale if the browser window is smaller than the original fixed-width setting, so no horizontal scrolling (797)
We extended Messaging Tweak’s functionality again and totally forgot to announce it!
Lots of people have been asking for it, so today we are giving you a bunch of notification options! Don’t miss your IM messages ever again!
You can now have a sound play every time your partner sends you a message, make the text in your tab change or even have Desktop Notifications if you’re not in the proper tab!
Additionally, we bring you emojis now! You can use every emoji from http://www.emoji-cheat-sheet.com/ (+an easter egg one, let’s see if you can find it!), so go wild!
And as always, if you got any trouble, you can always hit us up on our live support chat, or if you have a github account you can also visit our support gitter chat!
A lot of you that use Firefox have reported weird behavior regarding the comboboxes of the XKit Control Panel lately, specifically them being blank but options can still be selected and change.
With the update of the internal XKit Preferences extension to 6.0.3, this should be fixed! Either wait for the update or force an update under XKit Control Panel > Other > Update All > Update all my extensions
As always, if you got any trouble, either send us an ask, or join our live support chat or if you have a github account, our gitter support chat! If no one responds in the live chat, it means the developers are currently busy/away/sleeping! Just wait a bit and someone will get back to you!
Editable Reblogs 3.0.4 – return of the dropdown button and other matters
Today we are releasing Editable Reblogs 3.0.4. This update to the ER extension contains a number of major fixes, including:
Restoring the dropdown post button (including post scheduling and private posting)
Fixing a bug which was causing the wrong date to be attached to edited posts.
We’d also like to apologize again for any confusion around the interface changes in the previous version of ER. Our solution for editable reblogs at this point basically bypasses Tumblr’s interface completely and adds our own in order to solve some major bugs we were encountering; the three-button interface was always meant to be temporary in order to get those bug fixes out the door fast, but we underestimated how much of an impact that would have on many people’s Tumblr use, so we’re glad to be able to restore the dropdown to you!
(Some of you told us you liked the three buttons, and we’ve heard you too! If there’s enough support they might come back as a tweak. :) )
In the same vein, this has also been a catalyst for us to start thinking about a better approach to beta testing big extensions like this before releasing them to everyone, so keep an eye out for that hopefully coming soon.
Thanks to everyone for their patience and bug reports; as always, you can continue to get in touch with us by sending an ask to @new-xkit-support or @new-xkit-discussion or visiting our live support chat. If no one responds in the live chat, it means the developers are currently busy/away/sleeping! Just wait a bit and someone will get back to you!
not a huge deal, but we were taken off from the firefox store for a little bit as we continue to try to work through the signing issues and changes coming down the pipe in future firefox versions.
shouldn’t impact you guys at all, but if you/someone you know doesn’t have xkit installed and is looking to install it on firefox, they’ll need to grab the raw xpi files from github. we’ve updated the links in our headers accordingly.
hopefully we’ll get approved by mozilla and back into the store within the next few weeks—this was mainly a technical/procedural issue as far as i’m aware.
Some of you may have seen a recent error saying that the XKit servers can’t be reached.
If you see this error, please do not reset XKit. Nothing is wrong with it.
We’ve determined the actual issue to be page load failures on Github. While this is happening, please be aware that updating extensions and viewing the extension gallery might be broken.
Unfortunately we cannot give an ETA on when the services will be restored, but knowing Github’s reputation for being a solid service it should be fixed soon!
In the meantime, please be patient.
I know it’s Friday the 13th and all, but I promise you this review won’t have any bad news! (Unless you have a different interpretation of “bad news”, in which case I don’t think there’s anything we can do about that.)
Bug Fixes
AccessKit v1.1.8: The OpenDyslexic font used to load from the old XKit servers, but gets blocked because of permissions or something. Which is really weird! Now it gets loaded from a super-fast and stable source so that you can get the font you need to read the stuff you want.
Reblog Display Options v1.1.4: Hotfixes! Hotfixes! Get them right here! Fixed a couple of display issues, like titles on broken posts.
XKit Updates v2.0.2: Extension. Extensions. Person. People. Goose. Geese. Ox. Oxen. Plankter. Plankton? English is weird, man.
New Features
Messaging Tweaks v1.1.0: As it says on the tin, this provides a variety of tweaks to your messaging experience! You can hide the chat bubbles completely, move your own messages to the right, minimize the chat by clicking on the title, and change the colors to customize your chat to perfection. Now featuring Tumbley the Tumblr! Speaking of which, we don’t have a mascot yet…
Tweaks v5.1.0: Do you remember when the photo dimensions used to be 500/245/160px? We brought that back for old times’ sake.
Changes in Review
Editable Reblogs v3.0.4: We’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re restoring the dropdown buttons so you can schedule your posts. We knew we were releasing something a little broken while we worked on some better stuff, but we underestimated how big of an impact this would have, so we apologize. For the future, we’re considering a beta release channel so you can test the latest and greatest XKit extensions and we can get a wider opinion on upcoming changes.
Tag Tracking+ v1.6.3: If you ever wanted to have the tag counts and the [new] indicator back in the search bar, this fix has ‘em. This also restores the maximum new posts per tag to 10.
This brand new extension is for all the people that have gotten the new IM update for Tumblr! Useful tweaks to enhance your way of chatting with people!
Change chat bubble color, align your messages to the right, minimize the chat, or replace the background color of the chat with a color of your choice! Anything is game!
You absolutely don’t want to see any kind of messaging? This has a tweak to remove the chat bubble out of your sight and out of your mind! (+a small easter egg tweak)
More information about functionality after the read more!
just a quick heads-up: according to some screenshots that are being passed around, the new messaging system is not a replacement for replies and updated replies are yet to be rolled out
we at new-xkit-extension can’t confirm the authenticity of this information, but seems consistent with the announcement and what staff has said about the update (that it was more a replacement for fanmail then replies)
You may have noticed that the dropdown save button was replaced with three separate, clunky buttons. Initially when we wrote our fixes to Editable Reblogs, we needed to override Tumblr’s code with our own. But when reusing Tumblr’s save button proved difficult, we decided to remove the button entirely and add our own three buttons.
For the time being, if you need to access post scheduling and private posting, you can temporarily disable Editable Reblogs.
We’re not happy with this solution either. Rest assured, we’ll be taking a second look at making this work with the original dropdown button.
Side note: the XER-SR error should be fixed with Editable Reblogs 3.0.1.
If you’re seeing problems not mentioned here, or have other thoughts about ER, feel free as always to stop into our support chat room or drop us an ask.
We’re trying out something new with these Weeks in Review and are still working out the kinks in the formatting. Please bear with us.
Without further ado:
Bug Fixes
Alternative Timestampsv1.1.1: Long descriptions are boring! We’ve shortened the explanation so that you won’t have to spend as much time figuring out whether you want to install this extension. Oh, and we’ve added proper credit to the author of this extension.
Color Quotesv1.1.0: Color Quotes has been moved to Reblog Display Options. ‘nuff said.
Classic Searchv1.0.4, v1.0.5: If you have a search bar on your blog and you want to do a search, it’ll now point you to the actual tag on Tumblr. Spiffy, huh?
Edible Reblogsv1.0.4: Unchecking the hell box in the settings will properly close the lid on Panera’s Pandora’s Box.
One-Click Postagev4.0.8: Auto Tagger used to be naughty and replaced your tags, but now it appends them. Bad Auto Tagger, bad. No treats for you.
Read Postsv0.2.2: Added proper credit to the author of this extension.
Shorten Postsv0.2.3: Don’t overlap with blog previews. That would be bad.
Tag Tracking+v1.6.0, v1.6.1, v1.6.2: Clicking on the tags now brings you to the proper page, and the tracked tag counts are back. All’s right with the world.
New Features
Trick or Treat! We updated the XKit icon for Halloween! New XKit: now with 200% more spookiness! (Admittedly, Halloween is over and announcing this change now is a bit weird, but that’s what you get when you write these things afterward.)
No Recommendedv2.2.0: If you want to hide recommended schmecommended posts on the Optica theme, now you can.
Old Sidebarv1.1.0: This is Estufar’s Sidebar Fix renamed and integrated into New XKit! Get the sidebar back. For good.
PostArchivev1.0.0: A ton of stuff happened here. Like, a lot. For example, we added a link to help import your archive from old XKit, allowed you to import directly from text files that you can drag and drop, added a fortune cookie thing that will tell which numbers to use for the lotter–what? What do you mean we didn’t do that?
Reblog Display Optionsv1.0.1, v1.1.0, v1.1.1, v1.1.2, v1.1.3: Good news: Tumblr’s HTML makes slightly more sense now! Bad news: it broke Reblog Display Options. Good news: we’ve fixed Reblog Display Options! More good news: we’ve moved Color Quotes to Reblog Display Options! Bad news: if you were looking forward to bad news, there isn’t any more.
Tweaksv5.0.3: We added an option to restore borders to asks. Now you can be cool and edgy again!
Changes in Review
Editable Reblogsv3.0.0: We expect this change to fix a majority of the problems you guys are having. Right now, we’re tidying up and putting on the finishing touches. The New XKit developers do their best now and are preparing. Please wait warmly until it is ready!
posting this here because we’ve been getting a lot of asks about it.
Tumblr currently has a bug that causes some posts to entirely disappear. This happens when you reblog a post that has captions, and remove the captions and add your own. If your posts meets all of these criteria it will show up blank.
blank posts look like this
[snip]
Looks like this is getting fixed! Thanks to the tumblr devs for the quick turnaround on this.
If you’re still seeing posts disappearing like this, then you should come in to new xkit chat and let us know! it might be a caching thing/delayed rollout, or it might be a problem with your Editable Reblogs.

This doesn’t have anything to do with XKit and has been reproduced without XKit installed at all. We’ve reported this bug to support, so it will probably be fixed shortly (read: a few days).
just to be clear, this happens whenever a post:
is a reblog
didn’t have a caption, or every caption was removed (for example on photo posts that didn’t have captions, or where people clicked the red x to remove captions)
has contributed content (tumblr-speak for “stuff you wrote when reblogging it”, rather then “stuff other people wrote”)
if your post matches these three criteria, it will be eaten. This also happens to photosets. If you’re reblogging a photoset that doesn’t have a caption, and add a caption, then your caption won’t show up on the dashboard.
EDIT: as @wrestlerpeeta pointed out in the tags, this also happens with reblogged asks with additional comments. Just a note, this only happens the first time you reblog something with a comment. If it already has a comment (even if you can’t see it on your dashboard) reblogging it again from that reblog should clear things up.
