Frequently Asked Questions

I have a question. Where can I get answers?

There’s a few ways you can reach us:

  • Support Blog: This is our blog dedicated to receiving bug reports. If you have a problem, feel free to send an ask to that blog and we’ll respond when we can. Check the FAQ there too for common problems.
  • Live Support: Join our Discord server where we can answer your questions as you ask them.
  • Discussion Blog: For if you want to tell us about a great feature to implement, talk to us about XKit in general, or even talk about random things like Kill la Kill, then this is the blog for you.
  • Live Discussion: The #general channel in our Discord server is for the same topics as the discussion blog, but live!

How can I help out?

A good first step is to check out our GitHub issues page. Once you know what you want to fix, head on over to our wiki page on bug fixing.

Do you support iOS or Safari?

We currently support Safari, but do not at this time support iOS, as that would require a lot of time and effort - it’s a completely different development platform than the web, and would require rewriting nearly all of the XKit code.

The XKit app for iOS never had its code released, so we haven’t been able to work off of that. As none of our developers make mobile apps, we currently have no plans to attempt to revive it.

Do you support Edge?

Not yet - Edge is not quite as modern as other modern browsers, and so not all of XKit works on it for now.

Do you support Opera?

We support Opera through the Download Chrome Extension Opera extension. Install that extension first, and then go to the Chrome Web Store page for New XKit to install XKit.

Do you support Android?

Firefox for Android supports the Firefox extension, but only on the desktop site. We haven’t tested this yet, but feedback is welcome.

Do I need to uninstall the old XKit?

Yes, unfortunately. You will lose all your data, but some extensions like Blacklist and Post Archiver may provide ways for you to copy your data to a text file. The old XCloud servers are also gone for good now.

Why are you called XKit, isn’t that disrespectful/evil/illegal?

This is a fairly common practice in the world of open source software, and services like GitHub (where we and the original XKit Guy host our source code) allow you to edit other people’s software easily by “forking” it into your own directory. If you look at the GitHub page, you’ll see that there are 72 forks of XKit, meaning 72 people have created their own offshoot version. The XKit Guy uploaded his source code to GitHub with the intent of letting people do this.

Additionally, XKit is GPL-licensed, which grants users/other developers the right to share, copy, and modify the software. Atesh would have released his software under a more restrictive license if he were uncomfortable with this.

Why is there bread on my dashboard?

You’ve installed Edible Reblogs, not to be confused with Editable Reblogs.

I’m getting error 101.

You’re probably using old XKit. You’ll want to disable or uninstall it, and then install New XKit for Chrome or Firefox.
