I've had success backing up with XCloud, even today. There are problems with authentication, but you can override it to allow by clicking the shield up in the navigation bar. It also gives an error if you have certain extensions that are custom added or outdated (Estufar's Sidebar Fix and No Sidebar caused problems for me). If anyone has any problems and is using chrome to try to back up, feel free to send me a message and I'll walk you through it.

Good to know!

I'm on opera, and I've been using the chrome version installed via the Download Chrome Extension for opera which allows installs from the chrome web store. Is there any difference between the opera and chrome builds, any reason to switch?

Nope, the Opera and Chrome extensions are exactly the same.

Is it possible to manually back up old XKit's settings, and copy them back over once new XKit has been installed? I don't know where Chrome stores these things.

Neither do I, all I know is that Chrome stores settings by extension ID rather than having a global settings library. I don’t want to make any guarantees on when XCloud will update, but I’ll say Soon™

if i uninstall xkit to install this one, will i lose everything in my archives? i have a lot of stuff in my archives.. i use chrome.

Posting this publicly because a LOT of asks have been gotten about this.

It seems like the old XCloud servers are toast. Very few people are able to successfully upload to it. What this means is that, until we make our own XCloud with an import sequence or the likes, there is no way to preserve settings when upgrading. Whether you want this or not is a choice; if you don’t want to lose your stuff, you’ll be better off just waiting for a little bit until we’ve sorted out things on our end.

If you don't want to lose your settings uninstalling, does firefox have an option like chrome to just disable the extension without uninstalling it? That's what I did in chrome.

Firefox saves all extension settings locally, which can be used by any extension. Uninstalling old XKit and re-installing new XKit therefore saves all of your settings automatically.
