I will check out the extension on my pc tomorrow. For now I'll just say good luck with your project! I have to ask though, do you really have to go by Xkit? It feels kinda weird to co-opt another person's project like that. Even if you're basing this on the old Xkit, maybe consider making your own brand?

A couple other people have shared your concern. This is a fairly common practice in the world of opensource software, and services like github (where we and the original XKit Guy host our source code) allow you to edit other people’s software easily by “forking” it into your own directory. If you look at the github page, you’ll see that there are 72 forks of XKit, meaning 72 people have created their own offshoot version. XKit Guy uploaded his sourcecode to github with the intent of letting people do this.

Additionally, XKit is GPL-licensed, which grants users/other developers the right to share, copy, and modify the software. XKit Guy would have released his software under a more restrictive license if he were uncomfortable with this.

I hope this assuages your concerns!

Quick question. Is it a group of people or just one person updating all of this? Thanks a super bunch! Any way other people can help besides pointing out bugs?

Right now there are two people working on this. If you know javascript, you’re welcome to contribute code yourself over on github. If you don’t know how to use github, there should be tutorials floating around the internet.

cannot install on latest version of chrome

hello! i am using the latest version of chrome and have uninstalled old xkit (losing my archived posts, i should have seen that coming though). however, when i drag the file and install the new extension on chrome, every time i open a new tumblr page i get this:

and the extension will not successfully install. any ideas as to what could be going wrong?

sorry i got it workin, had to disable stylish for it to install (after which i could re-enable it), and i don’t know if someone has already told you this but the quick queue system is not working for me :c thank you so much for doing this!!!

I’m posting this in case anyone else was having the same issue. I’ll add the quick queue system to our to-do list.

I managed to install the xkit, then using xCloud to get all my settings. But once I restarted Chrome, it told me that Chrome had disabled this xkit because it's not listed on Chrome's store. I can't 'Enable' the xkit back on. Any help?

I can’t actually test this because this isn’t an issue on Linux, but the internet says that ticking “developer mode” in the extensions page should allow you to re-enable the extension. Please send us an ask with how this works.

The other solution would be to download the Developer’s version of Chrome, but that’s a little extreme. We’ll probably start the process of getting this on the Chrome store very soon if this continues to be an issue.

Happy to see that someone has picked this up and I wish you luck. I'm currently using firefox (most recent) on a mac (10.10.3). I can't get my tags to appear in the sidebar nor can I get my quick tags in tumblr's editing window (I can get them in the one click postage). I'd love it if I can get my account info in my sidebar as well instead of under the peg-like person. I know I found extensions to get both of these in Chrome. (Usually use Chrome, but I decided to test your new xkit in firefox)

We’ve now fixed the sidebar tags and quick tags. You can update through the extension browser if you’re not seeing the changes.

As of now, there are two ways to get your account info in your sidebar, and both are slightly broken:

  1. Install the beta extension “Old Stats” from the extension browser. This will look like the stats sidebar on your activity page. I haven’t yet figured out how to get the activity graph to draw properly, so that’s currently blank. You’ll also still need to use the peg-person button to see your likes and other blogs.
  2. Install estufarextensions‘s sidebar extension from their blog. This will look like the menu that appears when you click the peg-person button now, and will remove that button entirely. Unfortunately, if you click anywhere before xkit is done loading this extension, you’ll be redirected to the dashboard.

Thanks for the report. We have fixed this now. You can manually update through the extension browser if you’re not seeing the changes.

You guys are an absolute GODSEND. I do have one question, though - I'm photosensitive and rely heavily on the gif freezing extension for my Tumblr comfort. I'd really rather not upgrade until I know that it works in your guys' update. Can you confirm if it's functional on Firefox yet?

I just checked, and it will freeze gifs, but the “hide posts with gifs entirely” option doesn’t work (and makes gifs move again). We’ll make an announcement when this is fixed.
