We’ll look into it. It might be related to how XKit currently doesn’t work in private browsing. Posting for other people with this problem.

We’re pretty sure this is caused by corrupted data from old XKit. Usually, you can uninstall old XKit and still keep all your settings when you install the new version, but sometimes those settings will get corrupted during the move. The solution right now is to refresh Firefox and then reinstall New XKit.

Thanks for this. It’s beginning to look like Firefox users will keep their settings, and Chrome users won’t. Unfortunately, this isn’t fixable because it depends on the old XKit, not our new version.
So I installed Xkit, and it didn’t show up of my browser. I am using the latest version of Firefox, is there something I should do differently?
At least two people are having this issue, which is sad. But you’re not alone! A good first step for hopefully fixing this is to open the url “about:config”, and click past the scary warning.
Once you’re there, search for xkit7. Then right-click on extensions.xkit7.xkit_installation_complete and extensions.xkit7.xkit_cached_blogs, selecting “Reset”. As a last resort you can also reset extensions.xkit7.xkit_installed_extensions can also be reset. This should trigger XKit’s install dialog once you refresh Tumblr. Let me know if it doesn’t, because that means this problem is more insidious than I thought.
It seems to work after clicking ‘refresh Firefox’ since it removes the data of the previous xKit so it starts all over again. :)

All my settings and archived posts carried over, and several other users claim the same is true for their installs. You should be safe, but you can try to back up using XCloud if you want.
This should solve the connection errors you guys are having.

This should be fixable by simply trying again. If you are supremely unlucky, you can wait until we upload it to the Mozilla appstore, which we’ll do concurrently with the Chrome Store (hopefully late tonight, but no promises).
