See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

quick note

Hey everybody! A few quick notes on behind the scenes stuff:

  • Old Sidebar (formerly estufar’s sidebar fix before it was contributed to New XKit proper) broke yesterday due to some code changes on Tumblr’s end. We’ve gotten it squared away now, so if you’re still seeing weird behavior with the account menu/sidebar, try “Updating All” in the Other tab of the XKit menu. Go give @estufar some props for the quick fix!
  • Seems like Tumblr is having some intermittent API availability issues today. Accordingly, some extensions that rely on tumblr API data may not work or may return errors. We’ve confirmed issues with Retags, Blog Tracker, and a few others. Nonetheless, if you see something, do make sure to come and report it! We’re a little behind on answering asks as most of the devs are currently inactive due to school/RL stuff, so the best way to report an issue is to hop in our support chat and leave a message. Even if we can’t respond right away (notifications for chat on our end can be a little laggy sometimes), we’ll definitely see the message eventually.

thanks for sticking with us! I know the past few months we’ve been pretty dead. Hopefully with summer starting we’ll all have more time to work on stuff :D

New XKit Town Hall

We’ve been working on New XKit for awhile. If we look back, we can see all the progress we’ve made: currently the Chrome Web Store reports that there are 300,000 users of New XKit, the Firefox Addon Store reported a healthy number of users before we were taken down, and we having a working Safari build. Needless to say, New XKit is a very stable project.

Now we’re in a position to do something we’ve never done before: host a Town Hall! It’s a meeting where we discuss the New XKit organization, report on the state of this extension, and field any questions you may have. We’re doing this so we can plan our project goals as well as bring visibility to the issues that affect New XKit overall.

The Town Hall will be held this Saturday, 1/16 at 2 PM Pacific/5 PM Eastern/10 PM UTC on our unofficial Discord server. Before you ask, you don’t need to register for an account, and Discord clients are available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. It’s also available from the web.

Near the end of the Town Hall, we will open up for a Q&A session. Please note that the chat will be moderated; we intend to listen to and answer questions one at a time, not all at once. Furthermore, please do not ask questions about specific problems or bugs you are experiencing. Those questions should be sent to @new-xkit-support or our live chat.

And if you’re feeling eager and can’t wait until Saturday, you can hop in right now and say hi! We don’t bite, promise.

tl;dr:

  • Who: New XKit core developers and the general public (you!)
  • What: Town Hall
  • When: Saturday, 1/16 at 2 PM Pacific/5 PM Eastern/10 PM UTC
  • Where: Our unofficial Discord server
  • Why: Planning for future releases and providing visibility into our project

Hey guys, we’ve been made aware through various channels that about two weeks ago Mozilla changed their policies on Extension Signing—something that we were never notified about, even given that we had reviews open at the time—and we were able to get our extension signed without re-writing it, contrary to what we had been told earlier by Mozilla volunteers.

Anyway, without further ado, we’re proud to present a version of New XKit that works with Firefox 43! Nothing else has changed, it’s literally exactly the same extension you have installed, but working. You’ll still have to download it directly from our github for now because Mozilla won’t show it on their store, but that’s a minor inconvenience in the long run, and we’re working on addressing it.

Anyway, let us know if you have any questions! And as always, if you got any trouble with XKit, you are welcome to join our support chat room. (hosted on gitter, if you want to join with a github account)

New XKit 7.7.1 Release (Firefox Users Must Manually Upgrade) – Solves “Can’t Connect To Server” Popup Issue

We have a fix for the “Can’t Connect to Server” popup issue!

In order to completely disconnect from the now-expired Old XKit servers, we have released an update to the core XKit code, making this New XKit 7.7.1!

Chrome Users: You don’t have to do anything! The Chrome store should automatically update you to 7.7.1, although you can use these instructions to manually force your extensions to update.

Firefox Users: Due to our extension being unsigned by the Firefox store (we’re in the signing queue but haven’t been processed yet) you will have to manually update your extension rather than getting an automatic update. You can do this by visiting http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/firefox and clicking the “Add to Firefox” button; the updated core code will install over the old core code, without changing any of your XKit extension data.

If you have XKit version 7.5.x or below: You have old XKit! Visit http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/chrome or http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/firefox to install New XKit instead (and be sure to uninstall the old version to prevent conflicts).

If you have any questions or encounter any issues, feel free to let us know in our support chat or bug list.
