Did you enjoy April 1st last week? So did we! We loved those purchasable features so much, we stole ‘em!
Not the horse, though. Horses are pretty hard to steal. They’re stubborn, and strong.
But that leaves arguably the best three things from the 1st of April in our sack of loot - framed avatars, the “tumbler” logo, and yes, AOL Instant Messenger. Downloadable now from the gallery, the April Fool’s extension brings those things back to your dashboard! Enjoy the jokes all year-round!
As always, if these jokes backfire horribly, our askbox and live support Discord server are always open or you can open an issue on GitHub!
Introducing a new extension to the gallery: Mutual Checker!
If you like to give your tumblr buddies more love or keep caught up with your friends’ posts, this feature is perfect for you. It simply adds an icon, as you can see above, to each post made or reblogged by your mutuals.
It’s got a fun option to check who follows your sideblogs, too! Very useful if your most-used blog isn’t your primary.

As always, if you run into any problems with this (or anything else), feel free to join our live support chat, open a GitHub issue or send us an ask either here or at @new-xkit-support!
Enjoy!
Oh wow the music player has a volume control, how conve-

This is our fault, and it’s been fixed in the 0.5.1 version of Audio+
(Which will be rolling out through auto-update in the next 12 hours, and you can also click “update” on the extension itself to get it immediately)
Short answer: Everything is completely fine. All extensions are intact and the problem should fix itself soon.
Long story: Unfortunately, Github is affected by a massive DDoS attack right now and connections to it are intermittently failing. Since we use Github to host our update data and XKit may not be able to connect to it, this could temporarily affect the ability to download new extensions from the gallery or update existing ones. As soon as the DDoS attack stops and Github resumes its normal operation, XKit will work as usual once more.
As always, our inbox and chat room are open for those with support issues. Thanks!
You may have noticed that Tumblr has recently made a change that increases the width of the sidebar and, on some screens, pushes the posts further off-center. We have just released Tweaks version 5.3.0 which adds an option under the User Interface section to get it back to what it was (or at least getting as close as possible). You will get the update eventually, but you can force an update through the “Other” tab of your XKit control panel.
As always, you can get in touch with us by sending an ask to @new-xkit-support or @new-xkit-discussion or visiting our live support chat. If no one responds in the live chat, it means the developers are currently busy/away/sleeping! Just wait a bit and someone will get back to you!
A lot of you probably already noticed that One-Click-Postage is only showing 5 blogs in the drop down. Rest assured, we know about it and are actively trying to fix it!
Tumblr changed something in the backend which broke our blog detection, but our team is actively trying to find a new, reliable way to detect the blogs and we’ll update XKit as soon as we can!
We’ll let you guys know when it’s fixed, but it should only be a little bit longer.
We’ve been working on New XKit for awhile. If we look back, we can see all the progress we’ve made: currently the Chrome Web Store reports that there are 300,000 users of New XKit, the Firefox Addon Store reported a healthy number of users before we were taken down, and we having a working Safari build. Needless to say, New XKit is a very stable project.
Now we’re in a position to do something we’ve never done before: host a Town Hall! It’s a meeting where we discuss the New XKit organization, report on the state of this extension, and field any questions you may have. We’re doing this so we can plan our project goals as well as bring visibility to the issues that affect New XKit overall.
The Town Hall will be held this Saturday, 1/16 at 2 PM Pacific/5 PM Eastern/10 PM UTC on our unofficial Discord server. Before you ask, you don’t need to register for an account, and Discord clients are available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. It’s also available from the web.
Near the end of the Town Hall, we will open up for a Q&A session. Please note that the chat will be moderated; we intend to listen to and answer questions one at a time, not all at once. Furthermore, please do not ask questions about specific problems or bugs you are experiencing. Those questions should be sent to @new-xkit-support or our live chat.
And if you’re feeling eager and can’t wait until Saturday, you can hop in right now and say hi! We don’t bite, promise.
tl;dr:
A reminder for today
A lot of you people using Firefox probably already realized: The update to Firefox 43 completely disables New XKit due to it not being signed/verified.
Let me begin by saying that all of us are truly sorry for this inconvenience.
We are trying our best to fix this but currently are unable to give an ETA on how soon this is going to happen.
Mozilla published their plan for extension verification in Feburary, so even when the New XKit project started in July we knew that it was something we were going to have to deal with eventually. We submitted our extension initially to Mozilla on July 20th, and did not hear back from them until November 16th, when Mozilla removed our extension from their online gallery, telling as that we do not meet their requirements to be a publicly listed extension. We then submitted as an “unlisted” extension, which was theoretically a more lenient process. This time they got back to us within about a week, but they would not still not accept the extension the way it was currently written.
There are a lot of technical details that go into the situation, but the bottom line is that we need to rewrite the core of how XKit handles extensions almost completely before getting signed. We’re currently about half-way through that process, and hope to have something to share with you as soon as we can pass validation. The biggest downside that comes with this rewrite though will be our reaction time—we will have to update the entire extension whenever we want to change one of the individual packaged extensions, and third-party (non-signed) XKit Extensions will no longer work.
Until signing happens though, we can offer you 3 workarounds:
WARNING! Signed extensions a security feature added by Mozilla. Disabling that feature may put you at risk of installing viruses and ad-ware!
Additionally, this fix only works until Firefox v44 hits and the switch gets removed.
If you still want to proceed, type “about:config” in your Address Bar, look for “xpinstall.signatures.required” and double click on it so it has the value “false”.
And as always, if you got any trouble with XKit, you are welcome to join our support chat room. (hosted on gitter, if you want to join with a github account)
What is this?!
Where did this come from?
And more importantly….
CAN I CATCH IT?
The answer to that is YES!
The New XKit Team proudly presents: Pokés.
Browse your dash, find and collect these little cuties by clicking on them!
Want to see your hardly earned Pokémon? Go to your XKit Control Panel and check Pokés’ settings page!

I won’t ask you if you’re a boy or a girl, but I will go and tell you: Gotta catch ‘em all! Be the first to finish the pokédex! (And don’t forget to show us once you managed to capture them all!)
We have a lot planned for this extension, so be hype!
And like always, if you got any problems, don’t hesitate to either join our live support chat or with a github account our gitter chat!
