Editable Reblogs and the Three Buttons

You may have noticed that the dropdown save button was replaced with three separate, clunky buttons. Initially when we wrote our fixes to Editable Reblogs, we needed to override Tumblr’s code with our own. But when reusing Tumblr’s save button proved difficult, we decided to remove the button entirely and add our own three buttons.

For the time being, if you need to access post scheduling and private posting, you can temporarily disable Editable Reblogs.

We’re not happy with this solution either. Rest assured, we’ll be taking a second look at making this work with the original dropdown button.

Side note: the XER-SR error should be fixed with Editable Reblogs 3.0.1.

If you’re seeing problems not mentioned here, or have other thoughts about ER, feel free as always to stop into our support chat room or drop us an ask.

2 Weeks in Review: October 23 - November 06

We’re trying out something new with these Weeks in Review and are still working out the kinks in the formatting. Please bear with us.

Without further ado:

Bug Fixes

  • Alternative Timestamps v1.1.1: Long descriptions are boring! We’ve shortened the explanation so that you won’t have to spend as much time figuring out whether you want to install this extension. Oh, and we’ve added proper credit to the author of this extension.
  • Color Quotes v1.1.0: Color Quotes has been moved to Reblog Display Options. ‘nuff said.
  • Classic Search v1.0.4v1.0.5: If you have a search bar on your blog and you want to do a search, it’ll now point you to the actual tag on Tumblr. Spiffy, huh?
  • Edible Reblogs v1.0.4: Unchecking the hell box in the settings will properly close the lid on Panera’s Pandora’s Box.
  • One-Click Postage v4.0.8: Auto Tagger used to be naughty and replaced your tags, but now it appends them. Bad Auto Tagger, bad. No treats for you.
  • Read Posts v0.2.2: Added proper credit to the author of this extension.
  • Shorten Posts v0.2.3: Don’t overlap with blog previews. That would be bad.
  • Tag Tracking+ v1.6.0v1.6.1, v1.6.2: Clicking on the tags now brings you to the proper page, and the tracked tag counts are back. All’s right with the world.

New Features

  • Trick or Treat! We updated the XKit icon for Halloween! New XKit: now with 200% more spookiness! (Admittedly, Halloween is over and announcing this change now is a bit weird, but that’s what you get when you write these things afterward.)
  • No Recommended v2.2.0: If you want to hide recommended schmecommended posts on the Optica theme, now you can.
  • Old Sidebar v1.1.0: This is Estufar’s Sidebar Fix renamed and integrated into New XKit! Get the sidebar back. For good.
  • PostArchive v1.0.0: A ton of stuff happened here. Like, a lot. For example, we added a link to help import your archive from old XKit, allowed you to import directly from text files that you can drag and drop, added a fortune cookie thing that will tell which numbers to use for the lotter–what? What do you mean we didn’t do that?
  • Reblog Display Options v1.0.1, v1.1.0, v1.1.1, v1.1.2, v1.1.3: Good news: Tumblr’s HTML makes slightly more sense now! Bad news: it broke Reblog Display Options. Good news: we’ve fixed Reblog Display Options! More good news: we’ve moved Color Quotes to Reblog Display Options! Bad news: if you were looking forward to bad news, there isn’t any more.
  • Tweaks v5.0.3: We added an option to restore borders to asks. Now you can be cool and edgy again!

Changes in Review

  • Editable Reblogs v3.0.0: We expect this change to fix a majority of the problems you guys are having. Right now, we’re tidying up and putting on the finishing touches. The New XKit developers do their best now and are preparing. Please wait warmly until it is ready!

That’s it for this week! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to join our live support chat or send an ask to @new-xkit-support or @new-xkit-discussion.

xkit new xkit Extensions updates Week in Review mod review bot finally we automated this

Disregard the last post about the survey, it was posted accidentally.

EDIT: to be clear, a survey was published prematurely and we’re not looking for responses just yet. We hope to release a survey soon, but this one had a few kinks that we want to work out first. Sorry about any confusion!

If you reblogged the old survey, it would be great if you could delete it, to avoid any confusion. Thank you!

xkit new xkit Extensions updates Week In Review mod xumbra seriously we're super busy with real life

It is finally time, the extension a lot of you guys have waited for is here!

Reblog Display Options allows the customization of of reblog chains on your dashboard, for example removing the icons, the usernames or minimizing spacing between text and name. It also allows you to change back your dashboard to the old style of blockquotes, if you so desire.

NOTE: You may have to refresh the page after changing options in this extension. Make sure you have removed all other dashboard modification scripts before using the extension.

It should be available in your extension gallery by now, so go grab it from there!

Under the read more you can see a few examples of the extension.

New XKit 7.7.1 Release (Firefox Users Must Manually Upgrade) – Solves “Can’t Connect To Server” Popup Issue

We have a fix for the “Can’t Connect to Server” popup issue!

In order to completely disconnect from the now-expired Old XKit servers, we have released an update to the core XKit code, making this New XKit 7.7.1!

Chrome Users: You don’t have to do anything! The Chrome store should automatically update you to 7.7.1, although you can use these instructions to manually force your extensions to update.

Firefox Users: Due to our extension being unsigned by the Firefox store (we’re in the signing queue but haven’t been processed yet) you will have to manually update your extension rather than getting an automatic update. You can do this by visiting http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/firefox and clicking the “Add to Firefox” button; the updated core code will install over the old core code, without changing any of your XKit extension data.

If you have XKit version 7.5.x or below: You have old XKit! Visit http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/chrome or http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/firefox to install New XKit instead (and be sure to uninstall the old version to prevent conflicts).

If you have any questions or encounter any issues, feel free to let us know in our support chat or bug list.

“Can’t Connect To Server” Error on New XKit - Don’t Panic!

Some of you on loading Tumblr today may have received a popup that looks like this:

image

This popup is in fact lying. Some of Old XKit’s services finally expired and stopped running today, and while we operate our own codebase, there are some references to the old one in a few places that triggered a notification when they went down.

New XKit still works.  In fact, if you reload the page, the notification should no longer display and New XKit should still function normally.

If you are still using Old XKit, now is a great time to download New XKit!

Firefox: http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/firefox

Chrome: http://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/chrome

As always, feel free to let us know if you encounter issues by submitting to our bug list or using our support chat.

Blacklist Text Search Has Been Fixed

We’ve received a number of reports that the Blacklist extension was not able to search post content after the advent of the New Design. We’ve released an update with Blacklist 2.7.6 which should resolve these issues and correctly register blocked words in posts again.

This update should roll out to all XKit users shortly, but if you’re impatient, you can manually update using the control in the “Other” tab in XKit preferences.

As always, feel free to let us know about any issues in our support chat or on Github.

AlreadyReblogged and PostBlock: Fixed!

We pushed an update for a bunch of extensions earlier, fixing the issues with AlreadyReblogged and PostBlock being broken due to a change in naming on Tumblr’s side (data-root-id -> data-root_id)

You can either wait for the extensions to update automatically or manually update under the Other tab in your XKit Control Panel!
